There's also this, if a client is running the mail file off of the server,
it doesn't matter if the ODS is R4 or R5. If the ODS is R5, the server
will convert it on the fly to be usable by the R4 client. If the client is
R4 and the client is used to create a new local replica, the ODS will be
R4. Another thing that you can't do is take a file copy of a R5 ODS file
to an R4 client.

I have found that the main thing to be on top of is the design of the mail
file. As long as the client is R4, keep the design R4.

Thanks,

Thanks.....I did not know about the compact. We run compact nightly and
that
may have cooked my goose.

This is a multipart message in MIME format.

Hi Rob

You have an R4 client and an R5 client. - an R4 client can read an R5 mail
box only if the mail box is set up to with an.ns4 file extension -
converting it to an R4 ODS - (confusing ???)

The only draw back to this is if you do a standard compact with no special
instruction, then it automatically updated the file to an R5 ODS so thyat
the R5 client cannot read it.

"I'NT NOTES BRILLIANT" :)
