I just tried it, and the *BLANK seems to be causing the problem.

I did a 'get from host' from my QCSRC, and changed the type to *BLANK.
After I did a 'put to host', a '4' was inserted before the text.
I will open an APAR to track and fix this problem.

I may have found a cause:

If the Type defined in CPO is *BLANK, a zero is inserted into the member
text (in PDM) when the file is Put to Host.  When I changed the Type to
SQLRPGLE and Put to Host it the zero was no longer in member text.

I can't believe that all the source I was having trouble with had *BLANK
defined for the Type but I'll keep an eye on it.
