Subject: ALT R ---> ALT C ---> Overwrites lines

I was looking around trying to find a way to copy a block of text like you
can using terminal emulation, well I found that using the ALT R combination
but when I try to paste like the help says using ALT C it overwrite any
code below where My cursor..
The help says that it will insert lines but that is not what I see...
What could I be doing wrong ?
