OK Chris, what I have done just for _you_ 'cuz of all yer nice words (and
showing how to reproduce the problem).

In SP4 (for V5.1) you will find that when editing your DDS in Designer's
source edit view thingie and you happen to press the enter key in the
middle of the line it will no longer split the current line.

And, included with no additional charge! A set of Ginsu kitchen knives,
oh, sorry, wrong add.. :-) Too much late night TV I guess.

I've also tinkered with the tabbing to make it somewhat less "unusual".
What kind of tabbing is expected here, or rather I should say that if you
only had one ruler to choose from which single line ruler would make the
most sense most of the time for a newly created blank line?

Kind regards,

Mike

"Is IBM aware of this problem and if not should I notify them?"

Hmm, maybe IBM central doesn't know. But I do, I wonder which matters
more? :-)

Seriously, with the instructions below I have been able to reproduce the
"problem". It looks like "new" lines in the editor don't seem to have a
DDS record type associated with them for some reason or another and the
tabbing appears to default to every 10 chars. I'll look into the code for
this further in the next day or so (I hope).

Mike

Yes, I have run into and can duplicate your problem, Chris, on V5R1M0 Code
Editor and Code Designer on SP3.
I use the Code Designer source tab for adding comments and such that
cannot
be done with the GUI tab. I'm running V5R1M0 on WinNT and I have seen it
happen on V5R1M0 Win2K. In order to duplicate this, just press enter at
the end of any line and tab through fields on the new line. The fields do
not match up one bit with the "A" template. Even if you enter "A" on the
line, you will not have the fields line up. The only way I know to get
around this is to either:
1. Type something on the line, then take your cursor off and put it back
or
2. Prompt the line with F4
It does not matter whether it is a printer file or display file in the
Code
Designer or Code Editor, you will have the same problem. A strange
template will show up and the tabbing will not be anywhere near what it
shows. So, the question now is, "Is IBM aware of this problem and if not
should I notify them?".

There is a difference between the Code Designer and Code Editor source
editing that I don't like so far. It is that I wish the Code Designer
kept
the current line intact when pressing <Enter> in the middle of a line like
the Code Editor does. I always forget and have to <Backspace> and then
position my cursor at the end of the line before pressing <Enter>.
Otherwise, some of the line appears on the next line. I say this is a
problem in itself. Anyone else bothered by this? If anyone knows
anything
about fixes to the above problems please let us know.

Thanks,
Craig Strong

Hi Mike,

To answer your question, I'm running v5r1 of the code editor (iSeries
Websphere Dev Tools). It's been off one space since I first installed it.
That's why I don't use designer. It's a pain where the sun don't shine
(and
I'm not talking arm pit! ha ha). I wish it would work properly. I ran the
sp3 upgrade yesterday (hoping that it would do something for me) but it
didn't help. I'm running WinNT. Any suggestions, Mike?

Thanks!

Chris

Hi Chris,

Cool, how do you get it to do that !! (aka "huh....doesn't do that for
me!"
:-)

The source edit view thingie that you are using there is, well, the Code
Editor in a window. It is using the same parsing, tabbing stuff that is
used in the "real" editor so it's interesting to know that it works
differently (but I still don't know why). Anything special about your
machine (display, software, etc.) that might be of note?

What version & SP level are you experiencing this feature at?

Mike

Hi all!

I'm trying to use code designer and I admit that I have not spent too much
time trying to figure it out, because (at this point) it was easier for me
to use SEU. I want to figure it out, but it doesn't seem as "intelligent"
as
the code editor. I figured out that I can click on the source tab, then on
the button to edit the source, BUT when I tab though the columns it is
always one column off!! In other words, let say I'm tabbing into the name
field, the cursor stops on the "a" of name not the "n". I've brought this
up before and everyone has said "huh....doesn't do that for me!". Which
is
a GREAT BIG HELP!! ha ha. Is there some sort of config I have to do or
something? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris Proctor
