Ignore my previous post regarding more crashes after SP2. I was reminded
that the day I installed SP2 I also installed TrendMicro Office Scan. When
I disable the real time scan, viola, no crashes. This brings up a question.
Whose responsibility is it to fix issues regarding non-compatible
software? I guess it would be the crashing program's vendor. It must be
Friday.

SP2 gets a thumbs up vote from me - it has given me fewer designer crashes.
Win98SE, V4R5M1.
The ones I still get continue to be of the odd, obscure and non-recreatable
variety.

Is some future version of Code400 going to play nice with Norton Antivirus?
That's my most common crash - forgetting to turn it off before starting any
part of Code. That one is not odd, obscure or non-recreatable ;)

I have noticed more designer crashes SINCE I've put on SP2.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Phil,

I fully expect there to be an SP3 for V4R5M1, however like all things in
this business I would not bet the house on it quite yet. There are a
number of "little but significant" fixes for Designer in SP2 that might
avoid the odd crash or two.

Yes, it seems that a slow connection or slow AS/400 (heavily loaded?) can
lead to problems retrieving reference info which can, in turn, lead to
Designer doing bad things. I am actively working on this to both a)
prevent the crash and b) recover from the error and carry on.

Compiler version for DDS)

Mike,

(I changed the subject to "odd and obscure crashes in Designer". Classic!)

There will be an SP3 for V4R5 as well? That's great because I don't want
to
upgrade to V5R1 until the as/400 is at V5R1 because of the verifier not
able
to select a release level.

Since you think the problems may be related to a slow connection, I am
connecting to a 620 and two 170's over the internet. All three are at
V4R5.
I have a cable modem and one end has I think a 348KB connection, another
has
also has a cable modem, and I don't know about the 3rd. With the 620 I
get
faster response times over the internet than in the building (fewer people
sharing the pipe I suspect.)

Phil
