Yes, java is free on os/400. Those java license programs just need to be
loaded, and remember cume tape.

I'm still using the demo edition of Code/400 while my company's
bureaucratic
gears slowly mesh with IBM's to add Code/400 to our subscription.

In using it I found the extras, and the integration to Aldon's CMS and
attempt to use same - only to be told that it requires Java and JNI. Java
is not currently installed on my development system (or any of the others),
and disregarding that apparent heresy my question is: Isn't Java runtime
included in OS/400 (and without charge?)? The reference I find on the
website says:

_________________________________________________
Programs Within OS/400
The following programs are all part of OS/400 and all ship with OS/400.
They
do not need to be ordered separately. However, they all appear within the
AS/400 Software Resources and Licensed Program menus as separate products:

5769-JC1 Java Toolbox for AS/400 (#2585)
5769-JV1 AS/400 Developer Kit for Java (#2586)
5769-PM1 Performance Management/400 (#2556)
5769-SA3 Integration for Novell NetWare (#2645)
5769-TC1 IBM TCP/IP Connectivity Utility (#2529)
The feature quoted is the code that must appear on the 5755-AS5 software
programs order for these programs to be shipped.

I know IBM gives away their java runtime, and the SDK, for WinTel and
OS/2v4
as I have both. Do they charge for /400 Java??? If so, any idea what the
ballpark price is for a 720 on V4R4? The operations folks here are just
giving me *blank stares instead of answers. Apparently they need caffeine.
They are assuming anything from IBM has a charge, I think so to but we
already paid it.

Thanks,
