However we (IBM) recognize that developers are very key to the future of
the AS/400 platform.  We are taking some steps to make all of our tools
more integrated and inexpensive.   I can't go into details yet, but rest
assured that we are taking your feedback into account and something is
coming down the pipe.

IBM doesn't provide a free Java editor/IDE either. Their only offering is
Visualage For Java, which costs about $3000 (Canadian) for the Enterprise
Edition.
