  • Subject: RE: Novell won't let me look in the Help files - changing default browser

Hello Stephen, Claus is away at this time so your inquiry has been
forwarded to me.
You may wish to try the following for changing the default browser...

Suggestions for specifying which browser help is launched in:

The directory
X:\adtswin\help\
has a file help.cfg

Depending on the build being used, there may or may not be a line that
begins
HTML_BROWSER=
and this line may or may not be commented out with a number sign #.
If there is not a line like this add
HTML_BROWSER="X:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe"
where X is the drive Netscape is installed on and the rest is the path to
the netscape exe
(which may be different than in the example).
If there is already an HTML_BROWSER= line, make sure it is uncommented and
pointing
to the correct browser exe

Try launching help from within your application, if this fails, try
rebooting your system as
an existing process may be using the contents of the original help.cfg from
memory.
If, after rebooting, help still fails to launch correctly, in
X:\adtswin\help\help.cfg
change the HTML_BROWSER= line to
HTML_BROWSER="netscape.exe"
as there may have been spaces in the path that weren't interpreted
correctly.
In this case, you may need to change your system's PATH statement so that
it includes a entry
for Netscape's executable directory. A reboot may be required depending on
which version of
Windows is being used.

You may wish to use Netscape's profile feature and have one profile that
uses the proxy and
one that doesn't. If profiles are set up and Netscape is set as the help
system's browser, then
when help is initially launched, a dialog will prompt for which profile is
to be used. This way, Netscape
wouldn't be committed strictly to non-proxy access.
