  • Subject: sluggish PC with OS/400 V4R4

Hey, y'all!

Ever since we put V4R4 on the AS/400 two weeks ago, my PC has been
extraordinarily sluggish, as if the processor is thinking about other things
than work. <grin> This machine is a ThinkPad 390E with a 333 MHz Pentium II and
64 MB of memory, and it is normally pretty snappy. Today I got fed up and
installed WinTop on it and found that the program eating the machine up (80 - 95
percent of CPU) is EVFCTCPD.EXE. When I shut down the CODE/400 TCP/IP
Communication Server, this program goes away and my machine is back to normal.
I don't quite understand this, since we DID NOT upgrade CODE or VARPG on either
the PC or the /400 with V4R4 - we already had V3R2M2 with service pack 2
installed, so we didn't touch it. Does anyone have an idea what's going on and
(most importantly) how to fix it? Thanks!
