Good question - wish I could remember the answer <grin>

I have always tested the ADDRESS OF the Linkage variable to see if it is
non-null.

ADDRESS OF ... NULL works fine, Jon, thanks. I note though that there's
really no good way to pass a parameter to a PERFORMed paragraph. So what
I'll do is test each parameter, and if it's not null move it to a working
storage variable and then PERFORM the processing routine. That's certainly
doable.
