Hi,

I'm not new to the /400 primarily using MI/RPG, but only C/C++ via
PC's. I'm a little confused about what is or isn't available in the way
of tools for programming C/C++ on the /400. I understand that VA has
been discontinued. I have a V4R5 release with ILE/C on it but am most
certainly interested in a way to do the development on PC side and just
compile on the /400. Any ideas and just what is the best environment for developing C on the
400? Definitely the budget is tight. Programs will be native /400(no
client PC) along the lines of both server code and 5250 clients,
including TCP/IP. I'm really trying to avoid native SEU. I think it
works great for block mode programming like MI and RPG but would prefer
the PC side for C/400 if possible.

For example, is anyone developing code using MSVS and then uploading and compiling on the /400(obviously, ignoring GUI issues)?

Also how far backwardly compatible is something like ILE/C V4R5?

Thanks, Ted
