Our auditor made a distinction between the bill-to (6 digit customer #)
being state of MI or whatever, and the ship to state, which depends on
ship-to (4 digit #).

For example, we have customer whose HQ might be in Ohio or Michigan or some
other state, for bill-to, but the actual product gets shipped to Canada, or
Michigan or Indiana. Our auditor wanted actual sales totals based on where
shipped, not on where billed. The damn census wanted this based not on $,
but breakdown on type of product, not using our classification system.

During shipping, the clerk can over-ride the actual ship-to address & does
that show up in SIH invoice header? SIH has state shipped to, and $ total
of the invoice. You don't need to include SIL break down of invoice.

So you might want to get clarification from whoever wants this data.

Do they want total sales that were billed to state of MI? If so do a query
off of RCM customer master that shows total sales $ in month X that has
state code MI.

Do they want total sales that were actually shipped to state of MI? If so,
you need to delve into SIH invoice headers, or look at ESH shipping details.

Then there is the question of whether the state code MI is correctly
populated in the state code field ... can you rely on BPCS data, or do you
need to dig deeper?

We satisfied our auditor needs by using query/400.
We also have SQL/400, but did not use it for this purpose.
I use SQL primarily embedded within RPG, so once the statements have been
tested, the code is reliable.
