Version 405 CD
We have to run one of the INV97 jobs (SYS/23 menu) to make the zero inventory warehouse locations actually go away (our people want this because when they do warehouse inquiry they do not want screen after screen of zeros, but I thinking perhaps a modification is needed there ... keep the zeros, but have a function key on inquiry to see the zeros or ignore them).
Even though we run the GET RID OF ZEROS jobs in every end-month (except in months when we do a physical inventory because we not using the official BPCS sequence of steps), and even though we run all sorts of other reorgs such as SYS120 (when no one else on BPCS), we have lots of deleted records that are not going away.

Our ILI has 18,000 Active records and 13,000 that BPCS has coded for deletion but they not going away, so perhaps you might check if your version of BPCS in the same boat, so while I have on my to-do list to physically remove the records that are soft coded for deletion (a lot of files are this way), you might put on your to-do list to have an undelete function for containers you want back in service.

Watch out, the deleted IWI records do go away, so your undelete function will need to also reintroduce any IWI needed.

For our stockroom, we went down the shelves with a paint brush and labeled the slots where containers might fit, then created corresponding ILM master locations.

version 6.1.02

we use random stockroom locations. when a new part has to be put away we make a bin for it, put it on a shelf (location), and put the parts in it. we make a bpcs transaction to record where we put the parts. suppose some time goes by and we use up those parts. the container is still on the shelf, yet bpcs says we have none. then we run month end and since we have zero parts at that location bpcs deletes the ILI record. not the computer does know where we have the empty container.

some time later we get some more of the parts. if we are lucky, the stockroom person 'remembers' where the container is and transacts them into the same container. but if somebody else handles the receipt, we may end up with a new container on a different shelf.

when i try to perform a location audit to make sure that all the containers were in bpcs, i got inundated with locations that bpcs did not know of. (luckily most of these containers were empty).

two questions:
1. is there a way to have bpcs 'remember' a location on the ILI when the qty at that location goes to zero?
2. should we pull the container and remove it from the shelf when it is empty, and then go through the effort of reestablishing the container in whatever location when we get more parts?

any help or comments is appreciated.
