MRP can be Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II) which is a methof or
the effective planning of all resources of a manufacturing company.
Ideally, it addressed operational planning in units, financial planning
in dollars, and has a simulation capjability to answer "what if"
questions. It is made up of a variety fo functions, each linked
together; business planning, sales and operations planning, productin
planning, master production scheduling, material requirements planning
(little MRP), capacity requirements planning and the execution support
systems for capacity and material. Output from these systems is
integrated with financial reports such as the business plan, purchase
committee report, shipping budget and inventory projections in dollars.
Manufacturing resoure planning is a direct outgrowth and extension of
closed-loop MRP. The MRP described below is known to us as little MRP
and it has been in use at Ridewell for about 12 years. Judi

MRP is generally known as material requirements planning and is used to
calculate components needed to run a production schedule by using a Bill
of Materials (BoM) and various rules such as lead time and lot sizing to
determine order quantities.
