In all versions of BPCS, the MPS generation program
only looks at Items that are flagged as MPS Items.
In most versions of BPCS, the MRP generation programs
look at all items, regardless if they are flagged as MPS or not.
Thus, you probably do not HAVE to run MPS.

       Sooooo
If you have at least Customer Orders
you can run MRP and get SOME activity.
However, as all of you APICS Certified Professionals know,
there is a fair amount of set-up required to get
"reasonable" suggested orders from the system.
( order policy codes, lot sizes, min planned order %, ......)
Also be aware that MPS looks at the Horizon Days and will not
plan any orders to be released inside of that date, but MRP does not
look at the horizon days ( at least not versions prior to 6.0 )

       I agree with the suggestion:
" get someone who knows BPCS & MRP to look at the machine"
The right person can answer your questions after a few hours of
       "poking around" the master files.
Full implementation of MPS / MRP may take a few months, maximum.

    Peace,
  Jim Barry
