We are using Zebra printer to print barcoded labels, tickets... They are model
105Se printers. These printers can be purchased with twin-ax, parallel, serial
and LAN interfaces. We have parallel interfaces that hang off a dumb terminal.
Thus, the device is assigned to a twin-ax port and given a switch setting. If I
had to setup again I would add the printer to our LAN with an IP address.

Our applications print directly to the printer without spooling the data, Thus,
there are no writers started for the printer. The application controls the
opening and closing of the print files. I have found this setup to be very
efficient and quick.

I have used T.L. Ashford to create barcoded media but have since found it easy
to use ZPL (Zebra Print Language) embedded in DDS to print barcoded images. If
you've ever seen the data stream coming out of TLA, you will see it is ZPL
coding. With little effort you can design and code quite easily using the ZPL
that comes free of charge with the printer.

Also, you may want to investigate using the DDS 'BARCODE' attribute. You can
different type of barcode from the AS/400 via DDS using existing DDS attributes
(so long as you have advanced function printing capabilities with your
printers). Check your DDS manuals and printer types.

Let me know if you need additional info.

Subject: Bar Coding with BPCS

I would like to see if anyone who has BPCS is using any bar code scanning
equipment for data entry, etc., and if so what are they using, both hardware
and software.

We are using NEXGEN Century dated BPCS V4.04 on an AS/400 and would like to
take advantage of bar coding to cut down on the amount of keying needed to
process transactions throughout the system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
