RE: AS/400 Sizing

Yes, we did do a Sizing questionnaire in conjunction with SSA and  spent a 
lot of time trying to get it right (not an easy task). We also spent some 
time discussing the sizing with IBM.

The company I am working for is in the mining industry which is very 
depressed at the moment, so they don't have money to burn. Since we can't 
afford an AS/400 with lots of reserve capacity, we can't make a mistake with 
the sizing.

I guess what we are looking for is some confirmation that the computer SSA 
recommends after crunching the questionnaire responses through the modeler 
is going to be somewhere near the mark.

We have contacted a few BPCS users ourselves (none of whom used a 720-2062) 
and the responses we got were mixed.

I appreciate your comment that no two sites are going to be the same, but we 
figured talking to a site with the same hardware/software config would at 
least give as an idea of what sort of workload it could handle.

Perhaps a better question may have been "How accurate is the BPCS sizer?".  
But even then, SSA could rightly point out that there is probably enormous 
variation in the accuracy of the responses to the sizer questions.

At the end of the day, I think you can only complete the sizer to the best 
of your ability, talk to some users, and then go with your experience and 
"gut feel".
