I had the same problem recently. I was able to avoid the problems with drive mapping altogether by specifying the path to the share directly.

For example:

cp \\192.168.1.100\sharename\qkeep3.xls C:\targetdirectory

If the share requires authentication, you can use the Win32 'net' command with the 'use' subcommand. Check the archives of this list for an example from Scott Klement.
