Thank you for your response.

While you can still use the old UDS 208 B/D, you can no longer configure a
line for it.

We tried the IBM fax/data modem but evidently that will not go down to
4800.

We are trying an AT&T Paradyne but are having problems.

Our current EDI coordinator has been led to believe that if we move from
sync to async, or PPP, then we will need to pay GEIS an extra monthly fee
for an additional trading partnership or some such thing.

Carl,

Thanks, and I may take you up on that.  But we also noticed a problem
with a 2609 port that we temporarily borrowed from another application
that, incidentally, happens to use the same model of UDS 208 B/D modem.
Same problem, except with all the lights.  And we matched every option
on the line and controller description with the working AS/400.  Just
got a burp that the problem might be a *ALLOBJ / *IOSYSCFG issue.  I am
going to check that out.
