You are correct with regard to cross-domain requests as far as I know - although there is some convoluted way to get around it. You can make cross-domain requests with web sockets though.

Sounds like he may be wanting to make http request from a webpage, maybe through javascript. The page that he's wanting to send from isn't generated from the AS/400 maybe from a .NET server.

It's been about 3 years since I've gotten to do that kind of stuff, but I seem to recall that you cannot make cross domain requests. Correct me if I'm wrong. My feeling will not be hurt.

With that being said, it sounds like a web service is needed.

Do you find RPG developers who would like browsers to be 5250
terminals and browser address bars to be 5250 command lines? What
sorts of dangers follow that line of thinking?

I think you need to clarify exactly the scenario you want to achieve
because the way you have worded that doesn't make much sense.

Is the request to the server (running on the iSeries) intended to
respond with HTML (i.e navigating via a link, anchor tag or button)
or is it a xmlhttprequest under the covers to a server that the
browser is not yet connected to?

What does "respond with a status update call" mean?

However, I do need to respond with a status update call to the
AS/400
using
CGIDEV.

Can this be done?
