Shoot, *I* can answer that: "Because it is there!". Well, no, actually, it is more of the IBM i platform being a secure, high performing server that can run all the latest languages and frameworks. If we are going to attract the under 40 set, we need to have a server platform that can natively run all the latest technologies "out of the box". Of your list of languages, only PHP and perhaps .Net would be attractive to the younger crowd. But Ruby and other languages and Rails and other frameworks are at the edge of forward thinking programmers. IBM i shouldn't be lagging, it should be leading when it comes to these programming options (IMHO).
