Check out the A-man's article. It's a good rundown of the development environment. I didn't do it quite the way Aaron did, but his writeup is a solid step-by-step that should work for anyone.

Looks like Aptana is built on Eclipse as well, just another variation :-)

I can't count how many versions of Eclipse I've installed when playing with different toolsets :-)

I'm starting some Android/iPad/iPhone investigation as well.

What did you have to install to get Android dev going ? Just Eclipse and Android SDK or more ?

Aptana's got a good rep. They just got bought by Appcelerator, so they're going to be playing in the mobile space as well. Not sure why you wouldn't just use Eclipse, though. Given the vast number of toys you're playing with these days, I'd think you'd want to at least standardize your development environment. Part of the reason I'm having so much fun in my limited time I get with Android is that I don't have to learn a new IDE. Of course, I don't have to learn a new language either, but that's besides the point<grin>.
