Buck,

Check out the Young i Professionals (YiPs) at http://youngiprofessionals.com/ Go to the Wiki and choose the PASE link. Then click on the Open Source Binaries link and you should find a simple installer for RPM in PASE. There is other really great stuff there for PASE as well.

F.Y.I., (for those that are real keen) I understand that you can install
the AIX XL C/C++ compiler in the PASE environment on the IBM i. However I
am not that familiar with Perl to know if this would help here or not.

The required PTF mentioned (SI19860) is for i5/OS V5R3. A bit of
mucking about takes me to
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&q1=PASE+XL+C&uid=nas151105438899c3b01862574720068ac8c&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&cc=us&lang=all
(Installing the XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition for AIX in PASE) which tells
me that my IBM i 5.4 system can use XL C 8.0 or 9.0. I can download
trial versions of 10.1 or 12.1.

All I have is the IBM i hammer. And as mighty as it is, and as much as
I love it, I don't think it quite fits this particular problem.

Thanks for the suggestions!
