Being that your response was to my email I will assume this was mostly meant
for me. I am fairly certain we have already covered this topic in this
forum so I am not entirely sure what you are still looking for, but I will
try to digress, again.

1) Yes, I am a bona fide philanthropist. I hope that is evident enough by
now through all of my open source efforts - many of which haven't brought in
a direct penny even though many corporations are using them. Heck, if I
understand it correctly, you are even using some of my open source code with
the HTML2PDF4i tooling.

2) Yes, the software industry today is VERY concerned about licenses. The
biggest most recent licensing issue can be found with Oracle suing Google
for how Google is using/bundling Java with Android. Why is this
significant? Because an entire industry hinges on this.

3) Does OpenRPGUI have value? I like to think so. I have convinced a
handful of pay-for-my-time customers to think so (i.e. contract work).

4) Hidden agendas? I am not sure what I would be hiding at this point.
Already covered in this forum I have stated I make money on articles,
presenting (i.e. RPG & Beyond Conference yesterday), that I make money off
of contract work, and I also make money off of subsequent support. BTW,
this is no different than my customers who pay me to do CGIDEV2
development. So do I plan on making money from my efforts? You bet. I
can't wipe my kids' poopy butts with broad leaf from the soybean field.

Maybe you need to come right out and ask what it is you have on your mind so
we can put this to rest?

FYI, we just release a new site for RPGUI that is going to be announced

week. It is now named OpenRPGUI and can be found at www.OpenRPGUI.com

Here are some fundamental differences:

1) powerEXT and Renaissance both make use of CGIDEV2 which has license
issues. Not saying they aren't excellently developed, because they are
from
what I have seen.

2) powerEXT is GPLv3 and requires a license more or less (unless you open
source your application which is highly unlikely - Henrik, let me know if I
am incorrect). This means I can't use powerEXT source in OpenRPGUI.
OpenRPGUI is LGPL which is much more liberal (i.e. better for developers)
and doesn't require you to submit your changes back to the core product or
open source your application.

3) OpenRPGUI makes more use of a "display file talks to controller"
approach. You can see what I mean by going here:
http://red.rpg-xml.com/oru11/dspf/custmaint.html. I am not sure whether
powerEXT or Ren takes this approach, but I am finding it saves me A LOT of
coding time.

I am not for certain what license Ren is distributed under. Maybe Kevin
Turner can respond on that note. If it is under a liberal license there we
could make use of it in OpenRPGUI. I am not against doing co-development,
but I doubt we could fold any of these together into one.
