I'm willing to consider that open source EGL is really a good thing for IBMi developers.

I'm just not convinced (yet) that open source EGL is a complete, stand-alone package. I don't want to get wrapped up in open source EGL, then discover I really need to get the licensed version of EGL tools in order to run a business with EGL. I need to feel confident that open source EGL is more than bait for the licensed version.

I can just see the EGL powers-that-be, sitting in a room.
"Hey Fred, we sold any of them EGLs lately?"
"Nope!"
"Oh crap, we better stop spending money - how can we show that we 'care'?"
"I know! Let's open source it!"

IBM has put together a proposal to take its EGL business development
language open source. (And yes, you read that right.) The EGL
Development Tools Project, as its called, includes a detailed proposal
and well as an FAQ. In addition, IBM is holding an EGL open source
launch event webcast on June 29
