David

I can write anything to a web page even without using CGIDEV2 - just by using regular RPG and the CGI APIS. I (we) do it now in one of our products. Is it as easy as other tools? No - regular RPG is a fairly horrible language for processing strings. Would CGIDEV2 be easier? I think so.

CGIDEV2 adds DSPF-format-like structures that make it easier to work with data. It also gives you ways to import static content easily.

PHP and ASP and ASP.Net are really just front ends to CGI. They help make things a little easier.

A webpage is text - if you can write out the text, you can do anything. Your other developer is just plain wrong.

Some tools make writing a webpage easier to do. But that does not mean it is a static page. Send him back to school!

I don't know that you are missing anything. Ask the developer if a page created in PHP that accesses a server database is a dynamic page. If so, then a page created with CGIDEV2 should be considered dynamic.

Thanks,I am presuming he is referring to the limitations of creating a site with CGIDEV2. Although I have read that there are some, I do not know enough to easily see why. Do you have an example?
