I think I am following you. I guess I wouldn't consider it the same type of
comparison. For example, there is limited benefit in having an "open source
article" where I, the magazine reader, has little or no reason for wanting
to use it other than read it once and maybe use it for reference later on.
On the flip side, open source software can be used many times over in
different capacities to actually meet a tangible business need.

But maybe they wouldn't be so different if a couple things were clarified.
For example, once an article is published I have no ability to alter the
statements made. If ExtJS was only allowed to published a single version of
their software then it wouldn't hold a lot of value because they would have
a chance to make it better and have people get subsequent value after the
initial value. But since that isn't how software operates, then it would be
my opinion that holding the keys for ExtJS licenses would be much more
valuable to ExtJS the company - and subsequently much less valuable to the
community based on the way they are "holding the keys" (i.e. their dual
license).

I am not sure what you are digging for Nathan. Maybe you could come
right out and ask it?

Do you think that having a license to distribute ExtJS has greater, equal,
or less value than having a license to distribute (publish) an article? Is
that a valid comparison?

I don't feel like this is slated to have me come out
without some dirt thrown at me though...

No, just my opinion that an ExtJS license would have more value.

Nathan.
