You mean .Net only requires a Windoz and an IBM i server to work? If yes, I assume you mean the Windoz environment to house/run the .NET environment and the i for the data.

As to a current investment not being a good reason to use something on a project... It is absolutely a good reason to managers and bean counters and people worried about money spent for a project. You can argue they are not taking into consider the whole TCO but until someone can show them a good TCO argument, then current investment is a VERY good reason for them. In that case, I'd be stuck with the dictate. So far, though, I have some freedom. My leash will shorten drastically if I don't get what's needed up and running soon and show it's a good direction to go with common strategic languages and tools.

The _only_ reason I let that line pass was I assumed (perhaps
incorrectly) that the "two" servers he was referring to was one Windows
box as the .Net box and one Power box running IBM i as the DB. I can't
argue that running everything on i will result in fewer boxes.

And you've already got an investment in Windows boxes and admin, no?
