Exactly = it has taken me a little time to wrap my head around the callback and all, but it's not a new technique to me - did it in VB 13 years ago. I actually found a series of articles at developerworks to be incredibly helpful - by a Brett something who works for Oreilly. Entitled "Mastering AJAX" - have the JSON article yet to read.

My trouble is, I'm new enough to javascript completely - oh, i understand it when i see it, but have not done a whole lot of original work in it. But am getting there - w3schools is very helpful.

The app here is a big CGI app written and augmented over the last few years. So applying AJAX techniques would be somewhat time-consuming. I just had to replace some of it with AJAX calls because of collateral effects of another change. And it is expanding my world considerably.

But now I'm on vacation - heh - off to Austin TX for about 10 days! The only AJAX there will be the foaming kind!

there are so many opportunities in it for AJAX processing, but who has
time

If it's already written (w/out ajax) and you're looking at the time to
rework it as an ajax app, I'd agree. But to use ajax on a new app really
takes no more time then not using ajax. (simple ajax. Not crazy stuff)
