Why wouldn't you just create dynamic reports to begin with? No need to
really store that data/report if the data is already in the database.

Making printer friendly versions is as easy as applying a new CSS.

easy print from web app is a must...

Guillermo,

I've been thinking more along the lines of generating stream files from
batch programs; something to meet the needs for reporting from daily,
monthly, quarterly, or annual batch processing. A school might generate
report cards or transcripts for all students at the end of a reporting
period, for example.

But you make a good point about the need for printer friendly output of
whatever users may be browsing at the moment. And one option might be
to generate a stream file from the Web app, then redirect the browser to
it.
