Annoying, but true. I would add though, you can UNcheck the ODBC and
OLE/DB providers. They're not needed if you're using the MP provider.

True enough, but I've never bothered.

Oh, and if you are using .NET Framework 2.0, you should read this...

And you better be using the 2.0 framework (or 3.0 I guess), but there's
no reason to be using 1.1 any longer.

While I personally agree whole heartedly, there are still plenty of people
using VS2003 and 1.1. Also, the MP is built on 1.1,
so the error message I wrote about in the article does not happen until you
try to use a 2.0 app against the iSeries.

The good thing about them is you do not need to worry
>about iSeries Access deployment/licensing...

Deployment can be a pain, but it's only on the web server. Required
components and the MP driver are all that is needed. The MP provider
doesn't need a license. It's only the stuff Rochester has to "buy" from
other parts of IBM (like the emulator) that requires a license.

Also a good point, but you cannot install the MP without the emulator which
requires the license (unless I have misunderstood this all along). In my
case, we are an ISV, so I run into issues deploying my .NET apps to people
who may or may not have iSeries Access. What would be fantastic is if you
could simply distribute the "IBM.Data.DB2.iSeries.dll", like you can with
other Providers, but it won't work with the "required components". This is
the only real reason I am even considering DataDirect.
