If this is a production app, you need a newer version of Tomcat. The one
IBM delivered stinks (it was way out of date when they delivered it,
they removed some functionality, and there are lots of security holes in
it). There should be information about installing a new version in the
archives here or at http://www.ignite400.org. Also, depending upon what
version of the OS you're running, you may be entitled to WebSphere
Express.

Subject: [WEB400] Deploying Java 1.4 application in ASF Tomcat

We have created a Java web-application that uses Java version 1.4. I
have
been trying to deploy this application in an ASF Tomcat server on the
iSeries. However, I have read somewhere that ASF Tomcat just supports
version 1.2 and version 1.3. Is there a way to deploy an application
written with version 1.4 in an ASF Tomcat server, or should I look for
another server? In that case, what are the possibilities? Should I
install
a stand-alone Tomcat server in the IFS? Any suggestions for webpages
describing the installation process in a detailed step-by-step way?
