Thanks to your outstanding help and some burning of midnight oil, I have managed to get everything that I wanted at this stage to work under NS and Firefox by changing the DoOnLoad function that you suggested so that it called other functions and thus everything was done after the document was loaded., including the focus function and updating the buttons texts.

IE no longer updates the button texts and the focus function still doesn't work, but I can use and also demonstrate with NS so I am very pleased. I am sure that in due course as I learn more and implement further functionality, I will overcome the IE problems.

I really would like to thank you once again for your tremendous efforts on my behalf.
