Retrieving user name

Is it possible to retrieve the user name that signed on when using the
as400 for security.  I would like to retrieve the name after the server
validates the user so I can apply additional security at the application
level.  Once the user passes the initial signon when requested by the
server and select a link I would like to look up the user name making the
request and see if they are allowed to process that request.
