I'm disappointed to learn that Bard is still using the old CHECKR routine -
it is really very inefficient.

In answer to your question - yes you just use the %Len BIF.  That is the
beauty of the thing.

Have you tried CGIDEV2?  I teach the basic APIs, but after that just
recommend people to switch to CGIDEV2.  If you understand the APIs you can
always modify the source code to "tweak" it if there is anything you don't
like - but Mel Rothman did a great job of exploiting the latest in RPG
functions and it is pretty efficient code.
