I multiplied the timeout values by 10, so the ping went from say 300 to

We were simply told that a 620 is not supported.  We're also going to try
WAS on NT just to see the differences.

I think that the only way to get L2 cache is to upgrade the processor.  You
can't get it separately.  Which models have L2 cache is in the Handbook.
