Yup - that's why I'm using them - seems really stupid though that a tag
like <CODE> which is designed for the sole purpose of showing code samples
can't be used for that purpose!

So is replacing all my blanks with &nbsp the only option?  Or is there some
way to control the effect of the PRE tag to stop it injecting all this
extra space?
