OOOOOHHHH , it's on the TOOLBAR that I never display! I forgot there was a
toolbar. I guess I had dragged it (the highlighter) off that toolbar and
into the margin on the left of the editor. When I got a new PC and had to
reinstall, I couldn't find it... Getting old...

It's the yellow-marker icon with the flyover text "Toggles marking
occurrences of the given entity".
