I wasn't talking about installing RDi from there either... I was just explaining my issues installing RDi in general, then a secondary issue of installing iSphere.

My only problem right now is pointing install/update to the iSphere URL as opposed to a downloaded zip file. The latter works fine.

I was not suggesting installing RDi via an RDi Menu option. However, there are several plugins (third party ones for instance) that work from the "Install New Software" option. As far as I know Installation Manager cannot manage those.

RDi/RDp has not been installable using "Install New Software" for years.

As to iSphere, yes, they give us a ZIP file to put into a folder, then
we point to that folder in "Install New Software". IIRC, that is!

I believe that only things that come from IBM can be installed via IM. Eclipse plugins need to be installed via Eclipse Install New Software. If you want to develop Java or PHP within RDi, you can do that. Just get the necessary pieces and parts from eclipse. From within RDi navigate to Help -> Install New Software, and select an update site. I bet the iSphere URL is an eclipse update site that you can add to the Install New Software dialog using the Add button. Haven't done that yet as I am in one of those corporate environments just now, and can't get out to SourceForge.

"Corporate Environment"... I had to laugh - literally out loud. We are a small company of less than 100 people. I am the top of the chain as far as IT is concerned, and I answer directly to the owner. My "staff" consists of two other people.

The only issues I've had thus far are with RDi - and those were directly centered around the gawd-awful installation process when using ESS.

Now I won't discount the possibility that something within Windows 7 on this laptop is not quite right... We were actually very surprised that it arrived with Windows 7 installed (brand new Lenovo core i7).

BTW - I tried adding the iSphere URL to the repository in IM - got a simliar message about not being able to contact the repository.

Dude, are you sure your laptop isn't corrupted or locked down so tight that installation is hard? I have never had even close to the trouble you describe except in a corporate environment where they control who can install what. I'm not sure what your issue is, just that it isn't RDi.

So after the horrific ordeal of installing RDi (v9.5) again on my new laptop, now I can't get iSphere loaded.

I had it loaded once by downloading it manually, now it appears to be gone. I've installed Data Studio since.

When I try to add the URL to the repository (http://isphere.sourceforge.net/eclipse/rdi8.0/)... It says "Pending..." for a while and then gives an error about not being able to access "content.xml" at the URL.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
