Yeah, same setup except maybe Enterprise version. For others to know, if they try this, I think they will have to restart Windows, because ACS caches credentials once you've logged in, in my experience. To see any change in startup time, I had to restart.

No, not a Mac. The PC I tried it on is a Windows 7 professional desktop. Performance is generally very good. I was only starting single 5250 emulator at a time, but I leave the ACS dialog open so I can launch more when needed.

Scott - This must be one of those "it depends" things - my laptop may be running low on performance, and are you on a Mac? :)

I gave this tip to another developer here, and he also saw the improvement with a local setup = we shall see how consistent this is.

Also, I'm using a batch-session setup, maybe that would benefit more than single session startup.

I tried this as well... but I'm not seeing any difference at all.

I'm not using a network drive or thumb drive or anything like that, but... when it made a difference for Vern, I thought maybe it'd make a diff for me too, but... it does not, it's exactly the same.

It's not a problem, really... the startup time doesn't bother me at all. I love ACS. I find it hard to understand why anyone would resist using it (unless they need EHLLAPI for something, but I haven't used that in many years...)

Even more thanks, I think!

I uncommented that line in AceConfig.properties file - started a multiple-session, closed it, then started again - marked improvement in startup - and this is local - so it's not just for network or thumb drives, IMO.

Thanks, Edmund - I'll try that.

I've not looked yet in the docs (RTFM, right?) but is there anything about Java memory allocation settings at start up? They are sometimes recommended for RDi.

There's one trick that can help startup time, particularly if running from
a thumb drive or network share. Just put a line containing
"com.ibm.iaccess.DataCache=true" into the AcsConfig.properties file.
