Well IBM had a major reorganization in the beginning of the year.
At one time we were mostly a hardware organization and we developed
software strictly to enable that hardware (OS, compilers)
The we grew into database, middleware and more enterprise plumbing.
We are now at the point where software is so vital and pervasive, that it
doesn't make sense to have a "software" organization distinct from a
"hardware" organization
So instead we have organized around the solutions and capabilities we are
developing for customers.
You can read more http://www.itjungle.com/tfh/tfh011215-story02.html
So there is no longer a separate Rational Brand under our software
organization focused on application development.
Rather we have a System z group which includes all the hardware and
software for it. And a Power group which includes all the hardware and
software for it.

Now I am still sitting in the same place and collaborating with all of the
other application development folks working on all of the other platforms
on things like RAD, RDz, RDi and none of the names or players have changed.
I still work closely with the folks in Rochester as I always did. My job
is to bring together all of the value from both organizations for the
benefit of IBM i developers. I just hope they don't feel like they need to
rename these products because I don't think it will help anything. We have
a certain brand name recognition and we should just stick with it. I will
certainly resist any changes and I haven't heard of any.

Edmund,

Sorry if this is drifting a bit OT, but I'm very curious about your
statement:
The fact that Rational is really not an
IBM organization does worry me.

If you are at liberty to expand on this, I am wondering what about this
worries you.
