Ken

First, you cannot connect to more than one system with a JDBC connection - so you "filter" for a system by having a separate connection to each system.

That default, IIRC, is something like a CURLIB - give a try to pushing your F1 button on that attribute or tab.

filtering is something you do AFTER makng the connection - both the Data perspective and Data Studio are similar - right-click on the connection and look for an item on filtering.

Neither of these things are particularly biased toward IBM i, which iNav is. They are SQL-ish things - and extensions on IBM i, such as full and system name, might not be available. I think Chuck Pence addressed some of this in a thread a few months ago, where I complained that Data Studio didn't seem ready for prime time when connected to an IBM i.

So I think you are more likely to see only the "SQL" names for tables and views and indexes and all.

I am inclined to go to the Database component of iNav for some of this stuff, myself. I've not found myself going to either, though, very much in the recent past.

Wish I had better news for you! Data Studio is a separate application - it's not part of RDi. The Data Perspective is part of Rational Developer - note that I did not use the small letter i!

Remember that Eclipse is a platform that can have plugins and apps from all kind of diverse sources, and not all will have been created with IBM i in mind, even if they ARE something we can use.

Cheers
Vern

Jon,

I don't know...

I use the "AS/400 Toolbox for Java Default" for my connection to my "AS400"/DB2 for i.

I do see a "Property" on the JDBC Driver: "AS/400 Toolbox for Java Default". That is on an Optional Tab on the Connection property...

So, if you could share a tip on that later, that would be great.

I must admit I do NOT know how to navigate Data Studio/Data Development in RDI...

What I "need" is to see DB2 tables by both ALIAS and System-Name like in iNavigator. I hope that I am just missing a "preference" or something in Data-Studio, that I need to turn on to see BOTH Alias/System-Names when browsing DB2 Tables/Indexes/Views...

PS. So for now, the database view is unusable for browsing in RDI. I really want to SO MUCH be a fan of RDI, but it seems to miss the mark. Or it could be very well, I am so lost in the navigation, I cannot figure it out.

OH well, at least iNavigator show me what I need!!! <Grin>

If I remember correctly (no way to test right now) there is a filter setting in the JDBC connection that you define for the connection. Different exclude/include type options. Will that do the job for you?

Hi,

In RDi 9.1.1 in the Database development view...

Is there a way to do a filter by the system-name like you can do in iNavigator.

Of course we have tons of files, and I need to filter to the file by
the system name. And apparently Database view has no way, that I can
find how this is done... <frown>

Just wondering if I am missing something. Or iNavigator is my only solution. It would be "nice" to stay in a single package.

It seems to work the same in Data Studio 4.1, unable to find or filter by the system name.

Oh well, at least it works in iNavigator.

PS. We have modernized many files, but not all. RPGLE programs can use the old-system name. And new Embedded SQL can use the friendly longer/alias name.
