Edmund,

On "feature" reported on PMR 84635, it appears to be a problem with the "Incremental find" "Feature"...

I created a brand new workspace, since my last workspace CRASHED last week, and I was able to start RDI. It wouldn't let me, and said to read the error-log. <frown>

So, when the new workspace was created, it loaded the "Incremental find" by default. Incremental find is an AWESOME feature! But, it should only work when I am in the find box and typing. Not automatically do a "Find-Next" like I hit enter. I did Ctrl+F, not enter. <sigh>

My Fault, I should watch where the cursor goes. I cannot assume it works as it has in the past. <sigh>

I had to reset the "Increment Find" to "OFF". I then had to restart my work-space for it to take effect. RDi 9.1.1 did not tell me I had to restart for it to take effect. Lesson learned, always restart RDi 9.1.1 if error encountered... <sigh>

Thanks!

PS. I will fully explain this to the IBM support technician when they call/email me back.

Edmund,

I have open PMRs for newly discovered "Features" in RDI 9.1.1 this morning:

PMR 84634 - Scroll Bar in Outline view Jumps the cursor in LPEX Editor.
Broken in RDi 9.1.1, works okay in RDi 9.0.1

PMR 84635 - Lpex Split Screen view, the Ctrl+F jumps the cursor, and does not allow you to type in a find.
I do Ctrl+F to type in my find, and I am over writing code. Lousy Feature!
Broken in RDI 9.1.1 works okay in RDi 9.0.1

PMR 84638 - Content Assist Not working. Especially in %BIF. But does not work even on a blank line.
Sadly, this has never been 100%, even with the forced rebuild of the outline view.

Edmund, please share a link for RDI 9.0.1., so I can reload on my PC. I had uninstalled it about 2-months ago.

Thanks Edmund.

PS. IBM support for RDI support has been great! Always appreciate working with Mike H. <Big Smile>

I wish it just worked, and did not have waste time reporting issues. <sigh>

Matt, thanks for figuring out why it switches behavior. It is not no longer a mystery.
I have sent a note to the developer to fix it. But it would help if we had a PMR to go with it.
Who knows, we might get a testfix out for this since it is such a hot button issue. But I can't do that without a PMR.

I turned that off also... VERY annoying.

It also changes the tab order.

Incremental find is an option in the Preferences->LPEX Editor->Find preferences. I can make the problem with incremental find occur for all newly opened LPEX edit sessions. So it the problem does not occur then set it on, close any open LPEX edit views and the open a member for
edit. The tabbing problem should appear. Follow same steps for
turning it off.

Incremental find is feature of find that positions the edit view to the
first matching occurrence of the find string. It annoys me so it leave
it off.

Edmund... I already have 2 APARs... feel guilty opening another.

Matt - I don't use incremental find, and I don't see where I would "uncheck" it. CTRL-F is find.

I agree that at a minimum it should not go to the checkboxes on the bottom but at least to the 3 buttons before getting to Replace. The current behaviour does appear to be a bug.
Has anyone opened a PMR?

The Tab should position to the next logic data entry point - that's true for all applications I've ever used.
In RDi, after pressing CTRL-F to invoke Find/Replace it "jumps over" the REPLACE text box and focuses on the "Case Sensitive" checkbox.

I don't see how anyone can argue that is "standard behavior" for any application.

As we can see some people want the Tab key to follow user interface standards of Left-Right and others want to follow the task flow priority.
So no matter what we do, some will be unhappy.
I think Buck's solution of Alt-P was the most usable and it can be done today.

Kurt,

Nope, I have created new workspaces, and still not resolved.

So, it is supposed to be "restored" sometime in the future... What once work, will "eventually" work again...

The tab problem was introduced in 9.1 and not fixed in 9.1.1. So if you're at 9.1, you already have the tab issue. (Unless it's due to a workspace
screwup?)

The control+F no longer place the high-lighted field in the Find Box like EVERY OTHER programmer Editor on the planet. This is includes ECLIPSE!!!
Yes, this annoys me...

And also unlike every other editor on the place, when you do a Find & Replace. The cursor normally position to the find field, and then you hit tab ONCE, and it take you to the REPLACE field. Since that is MOST COMMON reason to use find and Replace!

Except for SEU, which is outdated from the 70's or ealier... But even SEU has the second tab as the REPLACE field!!! How about that?!?!?!

What is the most common Reason to use find & replace? To find a string & replace it. The other functions are purely secondary. Why can the Next tab stop be the replace? Yes, you can cut it down from 12 tabs stops down to 4. If you change your window preferences...

But, even Eclipse has a single tab to goto the replace field...
(Long standing issue here, nothing new...)

Over all, I like RDi 9.1.1., but the Ctrl+F not working like Eclipse annoys me the most...

Most, but not all of us, are stuck navigating between a lots of different tools. So, this basic find & replace function should be CONSISTENT across editors. At least allow us to map it out to our preferences if nothing else...

Because I am sure people "LOVE" to hit their tab button a lot...

I think most on this list will agree that they are thankful to have moved up to 9.1.1 Some of the complaints have been on new function that is not even available on 9.1 (like the Multiple Occurrence highlighting).
If you insist on staying on 9.1, you can get a test fix for the associated APAR.

I'm running v9.1... I have my view setup with the RPG source member full screen and the outline view restored so that I can see both while editing code. If you expand the files under Global Definitions so that you can see field names, everything in the outline view "collapses" when you make a change to the source member.

Is there a way to keep the outline view from collapsing?
