Thanks Doug. That answers my question. I had the option set to "Save directly to original member" so it wasn't doing it for me.

They're created when uploading (saving) the source member.
IBM creates a temporary member with that name for the upload, then once
it's there it'll copy it over to the actual member.

Preference setting:
Remote Systems -> IBM i -> Objects Subsystem
this has the Member saving behavior, and you'll have the recommended
setting of "Save to a temporary member then copy to original member" option
set.
