Yes. Breakpoints are only honoured during the first pass, when the code
goes through the 'open' path. If I set a breakpoint in the 'fetch'
block, the program runs (properly!) to termination without stopping at a
breakpoint.

I was working on a UDTF a few months ago and it seems to me that I had
no problem with the debugger, but it's a bit hazy now.

I know how that feels! :-)
