Just to add a bit to Vern's excellent description...

In general the synchronising in RDP/RDI can be push/pull. The case of
saving is just a push of the content.

If you have an iProject and switch to the iProjects perspective then you
will see a Remote Reconciler view. Right-click on an entry to see what
fun you can have! In RDP on AIX/Linux (now RDAL in v9) this is used to
synchronise a local copy of the source with the remote project. I will
admit though I don't know if it is recommended for the IBM i or not as
typically an iProject is primarily a push kinda flow (from the iProject to
the IBM i).

Should the synchronising (saving) be taking a long time that could
indicate a slow connection, big source or some problem. Increasing the
RSE logging level could fill up your .log faster or provide some insight
there. YMMV.

This came up as a tangential explanation in another thread recently.
Edmund or Mike from IBM said that while the member is being saved
(resources are being synchronized is the fancy term for that), several
operations can't be done - compilation seems one that should NOT be
possible, since the member isn't ready for it.

Now when running in SEU or PDM, you get the Save screen and can't
compile with opt 14 until that's done - seems that is about the same.

I wish the wording were something like "saving member" - I even think it
used to say that - along with the discussion and use of terms recently
in the colorization settings, lets have terms that have always been used
by us developers, not something that may have meaning in some broader
community - no one has ever used words like "synchronizing resources" in
this arena.

I'm using RDi v9.0.1 and I am having minor problems with "Synchronizing
Resources". That text and a tiny progress bar appears in the lower-left
area of the status bar, and I am not sure why it is there. While it is
there I can not compile source, and the RSE's context menu's "compile"
options just do not display. It takes up to a minute to disappear
sometimes. (Which is an eternity when you are in the zone!)

It happens after compiles, but not all compiles. It happens whether
source is open or not (so probably not related to the newish overview).

Can anyone tell me what resources it is synchronizing or knows how to
stop it? (Or even what triggers it so I can work out how to work it into
my "flow"?) It might be related to the problem some are having with
updating the EVFEVENT file, as "synchronizing resources" seems to come up
intermittently after compiles as well.
