Vern,

Yeah, I have begged for the update to RDi 9.0. But with only less than
the 20% of the RPG Developers using Rational Developer, it is a HARD SELL.
License has already expired, end of story. <frown>

I have sent emails to developers, show them how SEU show Errors, but it
Validates okay inside of Rational Developer...
Such as %SCANRPL shows an error in SEU. (Frozen at V6R1M0)

Regardless, we are NOT getting the update until 2nd QTR of 2014 at
BEST...
<Big Frown>

I am trying to set up 45-minute demo session, to show some newbies the
power of Rational Developer. But, everyone is over worked, and stick with
what they know, which is SEU... <YUCK!> To be honest, I doubt they will ask
for a training session, even though I offered. (Different building...)
I am excited about the new Technology Refresh for 7.1. And another
developer "begged" me not to use it, because it does work in SEU...
<LOL> Shucks! It is NOT even released yet!!! <smirk>

In my career, people ALWAYS hang on to old technology. Like nothing
wrong with "GOTO", it works! Don't use "Fancy" operation codes like
Select/When or ElseIf. (Yes, I got that about 15-years ago!) Or LEFT-HAND
Indicators still work!
<Evil Laughter> I don't get the Left-Handed indicators Select/When or
ElseIf comments much anymore. <LOL> But, I still get that "GOTO" is
completely valid and it works! <Sad Face>
Mine you; this is a SMALL PERCENTAGE that still hold on to the "OLD
Technology". Luckily not the MAJORITY! <Big Grin>
But, the hold-outs are still out there! At least 2 developers have only
2-years until retirement. So, why learn anything new?
I get complains about using "procedures/Local Variables" that "No one
understands"... <frown> (1-developer) They say use GLOBAL Variables like a
mainframe Cobol. Guess what language they first learned to program on?!?!?!
<snicker snicker>
So, It goes...

Others are still using WDSC & RD 7.6 out there. It is still a step in
the right direction! The memory Leak in RDP 8.5 drove me BATTY/NUTS!
I am much saner, now that I have uninstalled that RDP 8.5 Release! <Joy
Joy>
So, at least I am using more current release, than some others...
<grin>

NO WAY, I am going to shell out for Rational Developer out of my pocket!
I got a mortgage, car-payment, children college, etc...
<grin>

Too bad Rational Developer does not have an "Express" version, like
Visual Studio has! Which they just release the new Express Version for 2013!
Although a 60-days free demo of Rational Developer is good! For some,
that is not enough time. Since they only try it on a "part-time" basis. It
takes a while to get use to the navigation.

Same thing here - never a problem, once I made the change as Edmund
prescribes.
Ken, you're on a really old release - I know you've posted about
problems getting the newer stuff, but I will repeat what you've already
heard - get up to date ASAP.
I've had almost no difficulties with 9, other than initial installation,
which has been covered here by our friendly Rational lurkers.
Regards and best wishes

Edmund,

Here is what I did:

1.) Create a BRAND NEW workspace
2.) Create a connection to our test box

That way, EVERYTHING is like brand-New set up for the newbies...

And when I select the "Remote Explorer" view, and Press CTRL+SHIFT+A,
I get NOTHING, no message, no pop-up. NOTHING...

I typed in the filter: CTRL+SHIFT+A, and found two other keyboard
Maps for that. I delete the other two, leaving only the "OPEN a
Member" for
CTRL+SHIFT+A...

Still NOTHING.

Now, sadly, when I went back to Preferences>general>Keys, NOTHING is
mapped to CTRL+SHIFT+A....

So, I put in the filter "Open a member...". And When I try to assign
"CTRL+SHIFT+A", it drops off the "A"....
It will NOT take CTRL+SHIFT+A. <Perplexing>

No wonder long ago, I got tired of fighting it, and just remapped it
to
CTRL+SHIFT+Q...
(Of course, I had to remove the other mappings to CTRL+SHIFT+Q)

I was hoping to stick with the original mapping, as shown in the
help. I guess whenever I get a chance for my demo, I will do MOUSE
navigation ONLY, NO SHORTCUT keys. That seems to be perplexing to
newbies anyway...
<LOL>

Oh well, I was hoping that maybe I was missing something...

Thanks! Maybe this is a bug with the old RDP 8.0.3? <puzzled-Look>

Ken
When you hit Ctrl-Shift-A you will see on the bottom right that when
you hit Ctrl-Shift-A a popup appears - showing that there are 2
different actions assigned to that key and you can pick which one you
want to happen.
At some point base Eclipse added 'Open Plug-in Arte\ifact' to this key.
To remove this conflict, you can go to the Preferences>General>Keys
Type in "Open a" into the Filter entry field (Under the Scheme combo
at the
top) - you will see the 'Open a member in Remote Systems Explorer'
command show up in the list.
You will see the conflict show up in the bottom right as well. Hit
the Unbind Command button and both commands will be unbound from
Ctrl-Shift A.
Then put your cursor in the Binding entry field and hit Ctrl-Shift-A
and the 'Open a member in Remote Systems Explorer' command will now
be the only command associated with Ctrl-Shift-A.
Hit OK
Try hitting Ctrl-Shift-A = success!

Hi,

How do you get the "Fast Open" of the member to work in Rational
Developer?

In the Key file, it shows Ctrl+Shift+A, but that does NOT work. It
does NOTHING. I do NOT understand. (RDP 8.0.3)

I will be trying later to give a demo to some RPGLE developers in
another building, and it would be nice to have this work...

Am I missing something?

NOTE: I have it work in my CUSTOMIZED session, but I map it as
Ctrl+Shift
+Q, but I want to stick to the original configuration. I am going to
+be
starting from scratch for Newbies.
