Mike and Vern,
Thank you both.

The links to SEP Debugging and Aaron and Joe's videos will really help.

Verifying connection, under Checking callback to RSE daemon, shows:
"Host PTF missing. The requested function is not available.

I will get help from our operations manager to correct that.

Aside from that PTF everything looks right for my connection/install.

Hi Gary,

As to whether it is a "$ option" is a question that gets a "maybe" kind of answer..

I think it is no additional charge if you have purchased some other WDS option (i.e. a compiler(s) ) for the machine but if you have not purchased any part of WDS then it may cost. But take this all with a hefty dose of salt (or salt substitute as the case may be) as I'm far removed from sales
;)

Here is a big long URL to get you to the product help about debugging with SEP's. I really do think that you will be a lot more productive using SEP's than struggling along with STRDBG directly.

And some video stars...

Aaron Bartell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2Gd03ILL_A Debugging Web Services with WDSC, good hint about updprod(*NO)

Joe Pluta http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR7PsYUPE-4 SEP's with WDSC, I like the line "pause the video I'll wait" ;)

The videos are for WDSC but the flow is the same for RDP...

Happy Debugging,

Mike

Mike,
Yes, we are missing 5770WDS Option 60 (I see Options 44,45)

Am I correct thinking Option 60 is a "$ option" ?

I made one attempt to use SEP but did not get anywhere; resorted to STRDBG.

I printed some of the help and will try again when the alligators are distracted.

That's it from this of the swamp - thank you and the Rational Team for the great product/great support!

Hi Gary,

The symptoms that you describe indicate that WDS option 60 is missing

You can check to make sure that PTFs that RDP relies upon are installed by doing the following:

-Start RDP
-Expand the connection to your IBM i in the Remote Systems view.
-Right-click on "Objects" and select the "Verify Connection..." action.
This will open a Verify Connection dialogue.
-When the verify completes expand *all* the twisties and it will tell you if anything is missing or servers not started

What is most important in your case is that WDS option 60 is installed and that the debugger PTF is current. If the RTC PTF(s) are not installed or current only matters if you are using RTC and the port 4300 callback at the bottom only matters if you are going to use the STRRSESVR for interactive stuff. If you are debugging ILE then using the Service Entry Point (SEP) method to initiate a debug session is by far superior to using STRRSESVR (IMHO anyway).

Just my CDN$0.02 - and now we don't have pennies any more, is worth $0.00 in any currency...

Mike

Attempting to start Debug from RDP 8.0.3

From a 5250 session: I start the debugger server using STRDBGSVR

In LPEX editor I set breakpoints

From Remote Systems view I right-click the program object,
and select Debug As > Interactive

I get a dialog window:
No interactive job associated with this connection.

From a 5250 session: I enter STRRSESVR NAME(myConnection)

This raises error CPD0160 - Program QRSEMAIN not found in library QDEVTOOLS

I see in Midrange archives that we need: 5722WDS (Option 50, Feature 5050)

Is there anything else I should ask my operations manager to install ?
