Kurt,

Why have separate filters for each source file in a lib when you can have one filter? Create an object filter, set library, object type *FILE and attribute PF-SRC.

Hi Paul,

A number of my pools are in regard to the different versions of our software service level (we provide billing services for our clients). Each of those have about 20 filters, about half of them are pointing at production source files, the other half at my test source files that I have per version. I generally create a filter per source file within the pool.

Some of my filter pools point at 3rd party software or internal tools that reside in their own libraries. For example I have a filter pool pointing to JDBCR4LIB (Scott's JDBC connectivity tool).

I have pools pointing at dedicated test libraries (which have their own source files).

I have pools pointing at other team members' source files.

It seems I assigned my default filter pool to point to our IFS. This pool contains filters that point to specific folders on the IFS.

I had to work around the problem. All the filter pools themselves were exported, but the filters in them were not, except for the default filter pool. So, I used the "shift-click select" & "right-click move" options to move everything from the other filter pools into the default filter pool (keeping each pool's filters separate in the default filter pool by creating a temporary filter named something like " *** TEST *** ", etc.) Like I said, it was a bit of work, but much easier than creating all those filters all over again.

Out of interest, what are you using the filter pools for? I'm just trying to make up for the lack of project lifecycle management tools (i.e. this project is in test, this is live, this is held, etc.) In combination with different connections for different library lists, the filter pools can make life almost as easy as if I had proper tools. (Uh oh! Am I blaming my tools...?)

-Paul.

Paul, so you weren't successful in exporting all filter pools? I also use filter pools extensively (I have 18).

Thanks Theirry,

I haven't thought of the export/import options on the connection recently - I'm sure I tried them before and they didn't do anything helpful, so perhaps that was an earlier version of RDP.

I just had a play with them, and it was a bit of work but I managed to copy my old filters from my old not-so-healthy workspace. (In case anyone else tries, I make extensive use of filter pools in my connections and it appears that only the default filter pool is exported.)

-Paul.

Preferences can be exported then imported. From File/export, it's in the General category.

Connections and filters are in the
[workspace]/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.rse.core/profiles directory which can be copied from the old workspace to the new one.

I don't know when that option reappeared but Connections and their filters can also be exported/imported in 8.5.1 from the context menu.
(I just tried it and it looks like you need to create a dummy connection to have the import option appear.)

Have a nice day.
Thierry
