Paul and Jeffrey,

Un-checking the box for group by category is what really did it.
Thank you both - ARCAD went through the install process and said it had to re-start RDp.
So now when I go to help / about I see an ARCAD button that says it installed.
In looking around to figure out how to use it, I found an article by Joe Pluta some time ago that says it only works in projects. Since I've not used projects, I guess that's a learning experience for another day.

Thanks for all the help.

Thanks,

Dave B

Dave, under the Help > Install New Software there is a link to "available software sites" just below the add button.
This will bring up your current software sites and you mentioned you can see a couple references to the Arcad 5250 emulator in the pull down list, you should see them here also.
When you select them (not checking the box but selecting them so they are highlighted) the option on the right to Remove them should be enabled.
Remove both.

Go back to the first panel and Click Add, then click Local and browse to the unzipped folder on your desktop.
When you click OK the Arcad 5250 emulator should be listed in the list box below so you can check it.

If not then down below there is an option 'Group Items by Category' that is checked by default.
Uncheck it, is the Arcad 5250 emulator listed now?

Let me know if that does not resolve the issue.
Thanks

Thanks Jeffrey. I'll try to list the steps in detail.
1 I have unzipped the file
2 under Help / install new software, I see a box that says Available Software at the top there is a work with box and then a box headed name with one item in it that says "There is no site selected"
3 I attempt to add a repository, browse to the local folder on C for file:/C:/ARCAD_5250_emulator_for_eclipse_RDi/ The OK button on the add repository box is grayed out and a message appears saying duplicate location.
4 I cancel and click on the "Available software sites" text
5 There is a check mark on both file:/C:/ARCAD_5250_emulator_for_eclipse_RDi/ and Jar:file:/C:/ARCAD_5250_emulator_for_eclipse_RDi/
Yet when I click ok, still nothing shows under the Name box.
All that is there is a line with a check box that says There is no Site selected.
6 If I check the box, there are no changes.
If I click the select all button, nothing changes.
7 No combination of any of my actions changes the buttons at the bottom of the box for back, next, or Finish.
8 The only button available is Cancel.
9 Using the "Run as Administrator" option does not change any of the steps above.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Dave B

I've only just installed the iSphere plugin (using the TN5250j update site download from the http://www.taskforce-it.de/downloads.php website, which gives me both iSphere and TN5250j in RDP 8.5.1). I extracted the zip file to my desktop, "add"ed an update site in the "Install new software" screen and everything went smoothly from there. I removed the update site from my desktop afterwards.

Hope this helps.

-Paul.

For the Arcad 5250 plugin, the zip file must be unzipped (not renamed jar) and you would point to the folder containing the site.xml, plugins and features folders as a local site from the 'install new software' option.
I have run into issues with other users putting the unzipped folder on a network drive and everything works fine until the install starts.
Other users have no issue installing from a network drive.

The installation manager has nothing to do with adding plugins so maybe running RDP as admin might help with an update if you may have authority issues with the install location of RDP.

If you could provide the steps involved with a specific scenario and the specific error message that results we may be able to be more help.

In the box at the very top that says "Type or select a site", have you dropped the list down to select the ARCAD site you've entered?

Also, on one plugin I've installed before, I sometimes need to deselect the "Group items by category" check box. When I do that, the "There is no site selected" box then lists the items that can be selected.

Final check, have you got the "Hide items that are already installed" check box checked? If so then it might be likely that you already have ARCAD installed. (You can check by clicking the "already installed" link and working through the displayed lists to see if you can spot ARCAD, or something that is written by ARCAD's developer.)

-Paul.
